How to become a Christian

Jesus loves you so much that He came to earth to pay the penalty for your sins at the cross so you can live in heaven with Him forever. In order to receive God’s free gift of eternal life and become a Christian, you must…

1. Believe that Jesus paid the penalty for all of your past, present and future sins by His death on the cross.  John 3:16; Ephesians 2:8-9; 1 Peter 2:24; 1 John 4:10.

2. Believe that Jesus is alive as God in heaven. Romans 10:9; John 5:18,23; John 8:24,42,58; John 14:23; John 17:3-5; John 20:28-29.

3. Believe that Jesus is the only way to heaven. Luke 10:16; John 14:6; Acts 4:12.

4. Believe that Jesus will become your God when you submit to Him as your Lord, God and Master. Mark 1:15; Luke 6:46; John 14:15.

5. Believe that Jesus will forgive you forever when you ask Him to. Romans 10:13.

If you believe the above truths and you believe that you are ready to surrender to Jesus Christ as your Savior, God and Friend, then say this prayer to Jesus (or one similar to it) and mean every word in your heart:

"Lord Jesus, I believe that you are God, the only way to heaven, and I believe that you came to earth to pay the penalty for all of my sins. I trust you to come into my heart by your Spirit, forgive me for all of my past mistakes and all of my future failures. I surrender to you as my Master and my God. Help me to live for you every day. Thank you for saving my soul, for forgiving me forever and for making me your child. In Jesus' Name I pray, Amen."

We encourage you to tell your family, friends and pastor that you just received Jesus. If you do not have a church home, we would love for you to consider making Calvary your church home. If you do not live near our church, find a Bible centered, conservative, evangelical church near you where you feel at home, join that church and begin to attend regularly so you can grow as a new Christian and grow close to others as your church family who will love you and care for you. Tell your pastor you want to obey Jesus, be baptized to show others you have received Jesus, you want to join the church and begin to grow as a new Christian. Jesus commands all of His children to become baptized soon after we receive Him, attend His church regularly and grow as a Christian (Exodus 20:8; Matthew 28:18-20; Hebrews 10:25; 1 Peter 2:2).
